Are skinny jeans still in?

Are skinny jeans still in?

In my experience throughout the years, I can honestly say buying jeans is most commonly a frustrating experience for women. There are so many options, different trends and silhouettes. What may appeal to one person, is a fashion “don't” for another.

At my boutique you can always find some common themes, one being things from France. The new Cocoa Cashmere sweaters that just arrived in are designed in Paris and this company also creates and produces for the established brand of Chanel, all as sustainable as possible.

Art & Music

Art & Music

Art and music can soothe the soul during this winter season. I often look at art and listen to music to help in distracting my mind from current events. Dolcezza is a Canadian company that values its artists by paying them fair wages for their work.

My Favourite Pjs!

I first discovered Bed Head Pyjama’s when I was invited to go sailing on the Queen Mary. To "cruise the med" as they say in England. We sailed out of South Hampton in the late spring. It was exciting and memorable!

I'll stop wearing black when they come up with a darker colour...

"I'll stop wearing black when they come up with a darker colour”

The colour black has an interesting history, black was one of the first colours in art. Prehistoric artists used black charcoal and iron to paint in caves over 17,000 years ago. Up until the 14th century, the finest clothes were dyed with red, blue, or purple dye. There was laws put in place that restricted coloured cloth for only nobility, so wealthy Italian bankers began wearing black clothes as a sign of importance. In 1927 Coco Chanel created the little black dress and women's suits in iconic black tweed. This took the world by storm and it cemented the simple non-colour of black in textile history as a polished and always elegant wardrobe staple. Not to mention easy on the eye in terms of silhouette. I like to team it up with pops of colour in scarfs or shoes and always put it with a white shirt with a favourite necklace.

Hello everyone! I am reaching out because I’m very excited about the new fall season. There is newness all around in tech, media and of course in beautiful, fabulous new clothing and accessories at Posh.

We have added to our online store a new Canadian company that I believe has solved the sizing dilemma with buying online. With over 10 M accurate measurements Robosize predicts the best size and fit for you, so you can feel even more confidant in shopping online at Posh. We are adding the 'find my fit' button to many more collections everyday and all you have to do is click and fill in the brief questions to find your fit.

We also have our new Fall/Winter 2021 Preview video showing a few of collections we have in now. You can also continue to read the Posh Blog! With funny stories from over 40 years of running an independent women clothing shop. I hope they entertain.

A note from Aileen

Conscientious curating for Posh is always been on my radar, the pandemic gave us a golden opportunity to reinvent and undergo substantial change for the betterment of the planet and our mental health. I am in the business of dressing women and my goal it to make customers feel good physically and mentally. Wearing clothing and fashion in my opinion is about self expression, of course there is practicability as well- like rain coats for a wet day.

I love to walk in the rain and so I brought in several brands of rain gear into the boutique, all sensible in their own way. Joules raincoats have a warm cotton lining in blue and white stripes, in duck yellow exterior for a dull day. Joules also comes in pretty floral prints as well. We also have designer raincoats from Denmark by IIse Jacobson, their rain jackets are a great fit in classic style. I met Ilse a long time ago at a Danish trade show, gracious is how I would best describe her. Rain Kiss is a art focused line of modified ponchos. Designed in Amsterdam, they are  fun and have whimsical prints, comes in a one size fit and are super for biking! Go figure! They are also sustainably made from plastic bottles. Both the Joules and Rainkiss pack and fold into themselves with their pockets. So go for a walk, it’s good for your mental health and don’t let a little water dampen your spirit. Things are looking better everyday. “Getting better all the time". as the Beatles song goes.

Till next time,

Feeding The Soul

December 09, 2020 — Aileen Selkirk

Greetings From Aileen

Christmas is 6 weeks away! Normally in the past I would personally wait until December 1st to get in the festive gift-giving mood. I truly love the last minute rush, the running around, even standing in line to decide which fine single malt scotch I should pick to drink for Christmas Eve by the fire. I used to not mind standing there, people watching and eavesdropping on snippets of conversations. But times have changed: this year the holiday shopping is starting early to avoid shipping delays as we mail gifts to our friends and family away from home. But I must confess, I’m thinking a bit more of self- gifting. Yes, I am going to get those few items that I always coveted to soothe my spirit. Why not! It will be like the Christmas when I snuck into my parents bedroom closet and carefully un-wrapped the big gift with my name on it. I acted surprised and the glance between my mother and I confirmed she knew I had peeked.

This time I'll be wrapping it up for myself and I’lll act surprised just for the fun of it. By the way, I never did snoop again.

Till next week
Be well and give out positive vibes, they come back at you.
Cheers Aileen

A Note From Aileen

Hello Lovely Ladies,

Everything always feels better when the sun shines. Ontario was super lucky in this regard this summer!

Fall is coming and I love fall weather even more! Right now, in my business, this time of year it is all about transitioning into the next season. It made me think about how all of us have had to transition into a different world and the “new normal”. I was reading an article about how when the world has had unexpected change forced upon it, change often creates change for the betterment of humankind.

Change often does have many positive affects in all areas of our lives. I, personally have seen and watched all kinds of good change happen these past few months. So, when the world news breaks my heart, I remind myself that there is always goodness and light around the corner, and it will counter the darkness.

This coming season, I know I will be wearing clothing to comfort my soul. I will be wearing fun up lifting whimsical prints to make other's giggle. Our art wear collections never disappoint to cause conversation. I also will be wearing tops that feel luxurious, with a wink, or a little detail here and there. We have a bamboo line from Terrera that is so right for these times of uncertainty. I will be wearing soft cozy knit sweaters. Chenille sweaters have returned! It’s like wearing a hug! Did you know, chenille translates to “caterpillar” in French?

All Posh's bottoms have stretch, good for all the sitting and desk work that I’m doing much more of these days, also perfect for binge watching the new seasons coming up of my favorite shows. While walking about, I am looking at updating that fall jacket from a couple of years ago, because my mood needs uplifting. I know when I wear a new piece of clothing it works for me.

At Posh this fall season. All the fabrics and collections are embracing all the values I hold dear. Made ethically with the people that make them treated fairly. Quite often the firms that Posh does business with give back to their communities. It is more important than ever to shop locally and continue to keep our city with healthy main streets. I’m looking forward to expanding my bubble on Queen Street in the patios and seeing you in my little boutique.

All of us at Posh are so happy we made it this far. I truly Thank you for supporting us. Without you we would have permanently closed.

Be well, stay safe
Much Love to All
Cheers

A Word On Masks

Since the new normal is starting to emerge, I am following closely what the science and health experts are telling us. Masks are simply another tool in stopping the spread of the virus. You wearing a mask protects those around you, just like others wearing a mask protects you. If social distancing is not possible, it just makes sense to wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth.

am thinking of masks as another accessory…like replacing lipstick or a fun extension of an outfit. Some will be plain, and some will be patterned. We have prints that are fun and conservative fabrics as well.  One type of mask is called ‘Bay Street’. Yes, we are now naming the masks like lipsticks. I always thought what a great job, the person who gets to make up names for lipsticks and nail polish.

At the Posh shop I will have many kinds of masks in terms of the designs, shapes and sizes; so, everyone can find their individual fit, style and most importantly comfort. I am currently focusing on masks made in Canada to continue to support our wonderful and creative businesses. Posh currently has non-medical masks made in Montreal and a small town in Rockford, Ontario.

Different companies use different fabrics and again having a choice is key in finding what works for you. We will have more coming in the future down the line, as my regular suppliers make them. From Turkey and USA - to have a wide range of price points. All the suppliers that are making masks are giving back or ‘paying it forward’, by providing donations or money to people who are struggling. Posh only works with companies that have an open heart in all that they do. Treating all employees with respect and paying decent wages in safe environment is a priority for me. So, now you know when you purchase a mask at Posh, its not just helping you and your loved ones, its helping others.

 Peace and Love

Aileen
